Don't Build Until was started in 2008 by a former member of the Virginia Board for Contractors.
After sitting in judgment of a lot of contractors - seeing contractors lose their licenses and failing in their businesses - A.R. Pate wanted to make sure that the best possible education was offered to contractors in Virginia.

1. YOUR VALUABLE TIME - Your days are too long to be going to school at night. That's why our regularly-scheduled Pre-License course is held on a weekday - the first Friday of every month. And our Test Preparation courses are held on Saturdays. But if that doesn't work for you, our On DEMAND service can meet your schedule.
2. YOUR PRACTICAL KNOW-HOW - Your instructor worked as a construction project manager for 16 years before becoming a construction lawyer. You get a practical education based on practical experience, from someone who also has 12 years of teaching experience to make sure you "get it".
3. YOUR PAST FINANCIAL OR CRIMINAL PROBLEMS -The Board for Contractors is the group of 15 people, appointed by the Governor of Virginia, who can approve or revoke your contractor license. Your instructor was a member of the Board for 4 years and knows how the system works. As an attorney, through our affiliated firm, RACKAS PATE LAW, PLLC, your instructor can help you with any problems you might have getting approved for your license or keeping your license, including representing you through the Informal Fact Finding (IFF) hearing process.
4. YOUR UNDERSTANDING - If you take a cheap, on-line class, who is going to answer all your individual questions? Who answers the phone at the end of that 800 number? And don't believe the on-line hype that you can complete the course in 6 hours and 40 minutes - you can't. You get what you pay for. Do people who hire the cheapest contractor get the best work? In our classroom, you get a teacher who makes sure you understand all the topics.

6. YOUR BUSINESS - Starting out? As a new business, there is a lot to learn. The COMMUNITY BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP, where we hold our classes, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization which provides training, counseling, technical assistance, and financing services to small businesses. Education providers working out of an office building or a hotel conference room can't offer this kind of access to knowledge.
7. YOUR LEGAL PROBLEMS - If your company needs legal help, now or in the future, with writing or reviewing construction contracts, risk management, payment claims, or dispute resolution, those services can be provided through RACKAS PATE LAW, PLLC.
8. YOUR LOCATION - Are you a foreign company (from anywhere outside of Virginia) now entering the Virginia market? You will need a Registered Agent before you can conduct any business in Virginia. As a member of the Virginia State Bar, your Instructor can provide Registered Agent services through RACKAS PATE LAW, PLLC. And with our On DEMAND service, we can arrange a class at your location.
9. YOUR VIOLATION OF LAW - Have you already been arrested for unlicensed contracting in Virginia? An educational/legal package of services can be arranged between DON'T BUILD UNTIL, LLC and RACKAS PATE LAW, PLLC to help you comply with the law.
