Virginia Contractor Building (BLD) Test Preparation
You need the BLD classification to do new construction
What is new construction? Obviously it includes new, from-the-ground-up construction, but it also includes remodeling.
• If you're doing Home Improvement (HIC) or Commercial Improvement (CIC), you can refinish existing walls, but if you cut into walls, tear out walls, or move walls in a remodeling, you MUST have the BLD classification.
• If you rearrange the placement of appliances in a kitchen, or fixtures in a bathroom, you MUST have the BLD classification.
• If you put an addition or a sunroom or a porch on a house (anything with a roof) and expand the footprint of the floor plan, you MUST have the BLD classification.
The BLD can be added to Class A, B, or C licenses.
Not having the BLD classification is the #1 reason that Home and Commercial Improvement Contractors (HIC & CIC) get into trouble.
